Our biodegradable coffee bags are constructed with a multi-layer composite structure, combining premium unbleached kraft paper and polylactic acid (PLA), alongside fully biodegradable accessories and German water-based laminating adhesive.
- Outer Layer: Japanese Brown Unbleached Kraft Paper
This layer makes up around 44% of the total material weight of the biodegradable coffee bags. Produced via the kraft pulping method, wood is chemically processed to separate lignin and cellulose fibers, and refined cellulose pulp is formed into kraft paper. We source this paper from Japan, valued for its superior texture, neat appearance and consistent batch quality.
- Inner Heat-Seal Layer: EN 13432 Certified PLA Film
Accounting for roughly 40% of pouch thickness, this inner layer is the core biodegradable component of our biodegradable coffee bags. It meets EU EN 13432 biodegradability standards and delivers heat-sealing performance matching common non-degradable plastic films. PLA is a dominant biodegradable plastic for coffee packaging; when placed in industrial composting facilities, the complete biodegradable coffee bags fully break down within 6 to 12 months.
- Biodegradable One-Way Freshness Valve
Fitted on each pouch to release carbon dioxide from freshly roasted coffee beans, the valve uses the same PLA bioplastic as the inner sealing layer. Its functional stability is identical to standard non-biodegradable valves used on regular coffee bags.
- EN 13432 Biodegradable Resealable Zipper
Our stand-up pouches come with a reusable zipper made of certified bioplastic, fully compliant with EU biodegradation standards.
- German Water-Based Lamination Adhesive
The adhesive bonds the outer kraft paper, middle barrier layer and inner PLA heat-seal layer together. Its bonding strength is comparable to traditional adhesives widely applied on flexible packaging pouches.
