Recently, more tea customers are asking about biodegradable packaging, especially those selling to Europe.

But to be honest, it's not a direct replacement for aluminum bags.

We had one customer try it for green tea. It worked fine for local sales, but when they shipped it for longer distances, the aroma didn't hold as well. Later they kept biodegradable packaging only for faster-moving products.

The material itself is usually corn-based with PBAT. It can break down under composting conditions, which is why some brands prefer it. But in daily use, protection is still weaker compared to regular laminated bags.

So in most cases, we suggest:

use it for products with quicker turnover or when sustainability is a bigger priority than shelf life

If you're not sure, it's safer to test a small batch first instead of switching everything at once.
