How do we choose sustainable coffee packaging
Many coffee brand startups face this question of how to choose the packaging for their products. This article will help us choose the packaging that suits us from the perspectives of product capacity, materials, and corporate packaging tax
1,First, determine the capacity of your packaging

Hanging ear coffee, sample, instant powder
You can choose 3-side Seal, which has low cost and is suitable for small-sized packaging

125g-1kg You can choose between Stand up Pouch or Flat Bottom, both of which can stand up and have good display effects. Flat Bottom has a large printing area and visual sophistication, which is of course more expensive than Stand up Pouch

Large capacity, loose coffee beans. Gusted Bag has a large capacity, high space utilization, and is easy to stack

Next is the materials.
1. Recyclable coffee bags
This type of material often uses a single material and is easy to recycle. PE and PP are the mainstream.
2. PCR coffee bags (Post Consumer Recycled) are made from waste materials that consumers recycle after use (such as used plastic bottles, packaging bags, etc.), which are processed through sorting, cleaning, crushing, and re granulation to produce recycled plastic. This material is almost identical to the materials I mentioned earlier, the only difference being that it is a reused plastic. This can reduce fossil resource consumption and carbon footprint for the environment, in line with the trend of environmental protection/sustainable development.
3. Compostable/Biodegradable Coffee Packaging
The materials are mainly PLA, PBAT, and PSB. Under industrial composting conditions, they can be completely decomposed into CO ₂, water, and biomass within a specified time, and there are no toxic residues or microorganisms that can be decomposed in natural environments (soil, water, etc.), but there are no time limits or environmental requirements. It is not recommended to have a shelf life of more than six months or large capacity packaging.

Finally, if you don't have packaging tax or are not an environmental enthusiast, you can choose the most traditional plastic coffee packaging. Otherwise, you can choose the materials of the three sustainable packaging bags I introduced
